Premonition of Soaring - Print Options

"...the boy began to delight in his daring flight, and abandoning his guide, drawn by desire for the heavens, soared higher."
— Ovid, Metamorphoses VIII (trans. A. S. Kline)

Every dancer photographed mid-turn carries a little of Icarus in her — the moment before gravity reasserts itself. This image is built to look like it escaped from another century: the tintype vignette, the smoked amber tone, the way the backlight turns the dancer into pure silhouette against a haze of out-of-focus light. Her tutu catches the glow at its edges like something burning slowly from within. There's real tension in the composition — one arm reaching up and out past the frame's own soft border, as if the photograph itself can barely contain the gesture. It reads less like a portrait of a dancer and more like a record of the instant just before flight becomes fall.
