Long before Poseidon claimed the Mediterranean, Egypt had already given the sea a queen. Isis was worshipped along this coast as Isis Pelagia, protector of ships and the men who sailed them from Red Sea ports toward Punt and Arabia, her cult carried by sailors who trusted her more than the water itself. This image was made where that legend lived — on the Red Sea shore, at the narrow seam between desert and current where Egypt's oldest stories about the sea were first told. The figure here belongs to both: skin catching the same flat gold light that falls on sand and wave alike, the horizon kept low so the water reads as vast as the myth demands.
