"The natural function of the wing is to soar upwards and carry that which is heavy up to the place where dwells the race of the gods."
— Plato, Phaedrus 246d

Infrared turns the hillside white. Vasiliadis is shooting past the visible spectrum here, so the foliage that would read green comes back as luminous frost, the sky goes near-black, and the whole landscape acquires the look of a place recorded rather than seen. Into that he puts a dancer, airborne, gown streaming several feet behind her in a single unbroken sweep of fabric.

She is genuinely in the air — both feet clear, the rear leg extended, the front knee lifted — and the dress is doing something the eye can't quite accept, holding a shape that belongs to water more than cloth. To her right a bare thorn tree spreads its branches in the opposite direction, and the composition sets the two against each other: one thing rooted and articulated, one thing loose and leaving. The Wood effect gives skin the same pale glow as the grass, which quietly removes her from the category of person in a field.
