Eternal Meiji Jingu - Print Options

Bashō wrote that line at a shrine grove four centuries before this photograph was taken, and it still holds: the trees outlast everyone who walks beneath them. Here a long exposure turns every passing pilgrim into vapor — blurred, half-erased shapes drifting through the frame — while two figures in modern black hold still long enough to become solid. The torii itself, unmoved by any of it, frames the whole avenue in silhouette against the pale sky. It's a picture about time more than place: centuries of visitors reduced to smoke, and two people from right now standing very deliberately still.
